My name is Lauren Weeks and I am your Mrs. California International 2018.  I am a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University, where I received a B.A. in Business Communications.  I was a 4-year member of the Point Loma Singers which travelled internationally to bring Christ to others through music.  Before college I had set a goal for myself to earn straight A’s.  I’m proud to have accomplished that goal.  I graduated Valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude from my University.  In 2007, I met the man who would one day be my husband and in October of 2010 we were married.  Three years later, we had our first son, Hunter, and our parenting journey began.  Less than two years later we had our second son, Wyatt, and have been a family of four ever sense.  Being a wife and mother will always be my priority and bring me my greatest joy.   I also enjoy showing my two sons and my four nieces that although I am a busy wife, mother and business owner, I am still able to make a positive impact in my community through the volunteer work I pursue every single day.

I have always had a yearning to become a foster parent and eventually adopt a child.  Luckily, I married a man who equally shared that passion.  It is for these reasons and many more that I began volunteering with an organization called Together We Rise in 2010.  This organization is a California based foundation with a national impact whose goal is to change the way children experience the foster care system.  One of the main problems these children experience is being given a trash bag to carry their belongings in as they travel from foster home to foster home.  This diminishes their self-worth and reinforces a false notion that they, and their belongings, are nothing more than trash.  Through fundraisers and social media campaigns we have raised the funds to replace thousands of these trash bags with personalized duffel bags filled with hygiene products, a soft teddy bear, warm blankets and learning tools.   We also hold campaigns to raise funds to provide foster children with brand new bicycles so they can experience the simple joys of childhood.  I am passionate about improving the lives of foster children.  There are approximately 400,000 children in foster care nationwide, a staggering 50,000 reside in California alone. I believe California can become a pioneer in legislative change for foster children.  It is my mission to assist in that process in any way possible.

When I have some free time, I enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, and kayaking with my family.  Watching my children experience the hobbies I love is greatly rewarding.  I also enjoy singing in my Church’s worship band and participating in musical theatre productions.  These activities allow my creative side to flourish.   Additionally, I love sitting on the Board of Directors for Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, Temecula Valley Guild, where we develop creative ideas to raise money for the hospital’s pediatric department.  Finally, once a month, I get together with my close friends and neighbors and we enjoy a night of Bunco, friendship and fun.

I am a busy lady, but I have always accomplished the most when I’ve pushed myself the hardest.   To quote Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we GET, but we make a life by what we GIVE.”   I am honored to be Mrs. California International 2018 and I look forward to giving my all every single day.
